Emergency Helipad, University Hospital Southampton
TNG was part of the Project Team for a new Emergency Helipad in Southampton.
The Helipad is sited on top of University Hospital Southampton’s main car park. It has one of the fastest ‘Pad-to-Resus’ transfer times in the UK.
The Hospital is a major Trauma Centre for the region. Research has indicated that having an on-site Helipad can improve patient outcomes by up to 20%, as they have access to critical care services within the first ‘golden hour’.
Enabling works comprised UPS-backed power supplies, a windsock and obstruction lighting.
In addition, the upper car park deck lighting was redesigned to meet the height and glare restrictions of the Helipad’s operations ‘envelope’. The upgrade achieved a 50% reduction in energy use and improved the lighting distribution and colour over the previous sodium floodlighting.
