Overview
Completed in late 2024, the new pavilion at King George V Playing Fields in Bar End, Winchester replaced two outdated buildings with a modern two-storey facility.
Mechanical and Electrical Performance Design Duties
TNG was appointed to deliver RIBA Stage 3 mechanical and electrical performance design duties, including specifications and coordinated drawings. We were subsequently retained to review and comment on the Stage 4 detailed design developed by the M&E subcontractors.
During construction, TNG monitored the mechanical and electrical installations on behalf of Winchester City Council, ensuring compliance with the design intent. At completion, we carried out snagging and witnessing to support a smooth handover.
The completed pavilion comprises six changing rooms at ground floor level and a first-floor community space with a fully fitted kitchen. Accessibility is supported via a platform lift serving both floors.
The building was designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating, incorporating sustainable design features such as natural ventilation for passive summer cooling, an air-source heat pump for low-carbon heating, and roof-mounted photovoltaic panels.
