New Specialist MRI Suite
We are delighted to have recently handed over a new MRI Suite at Jersey General Hospital.
The project, in St Helier, Jersey, involved the Engineering Services and Builders Work associated with the fit-out of a new MRI extension shell that was to become a fully functioning and compliant MRI scanner facility.
The project was divided into two contracts. The first included the alteration and remodelling of the existing Radiology department to afford the space needed for the scanner’s ancillary functions.
TNG carried out a survey of the existing facility and its engineering services and provided full duties M&E detailed design for the new MRI suite. The design and construction was phased in order to allow continuity of service and minimise the impact of the works.
The second contract involved us acting as the Employer’s Agent and Client Advisor for the turnkey MRI installation. Our Engineers produced the Employer’s Requirements and M&E engineering documents and drawings for this phase. We were also responsible for reviewing the Contractor’s design proposals and subsequently, the progress and quality of the MRI equipment installation.
We were especially pleased to help deliver this important scheme because of the cutting-edge technology used. The MRI equipment that was installed, included a state-of-the-art Philips Halo lighting system. The specialist lighting system helps to soothe and keep patients calm and still during the scan. Coloured lights and projections are emitted in order to create a tranquil atmosphere that makes the procedure less unsettling.
The MRI department in Jersey is one of a few in Europe, outside of private practice, to use this type of lighting system to enhance the patient experience. We are therefore, really pleased to have played a part in the successful installation of this equipment. It will bring comfort to many island patients in the future.
